How to track AdMob and subscription revenue together

An app with subscriptions and advertising needs a view of both revenue streams. Make that view useful by keeping the components visible and being explicit about what each amount means.

Two translucent report panels flow into a single blue revenue chart.

The key idea

Combine compatible store proceeds and one advertising total for an operating view. Keep estimated earnings labelled, and do not confuse that view with finalized payouts or profit.

1. Name the components of revenue

Create separate columns for App Store proceeds, Google Play proceeds and estimated advertising earnings. Preserve refunds and adjustments according to the source report. Do not add gross customer spending to proceeds that already represent the developer's share.

Advertising estimates are useful for monitoring, but a combined operating total is not a payout statement. It also is not profit: it does not account for your operating expenses.

2. Align scope before adding amounts

Use explicit completed dates and record each source timezone. If currencies differ, first retain the original amounts, then apply a documented conversion method. A reporting conversion may not match the exchange rate used for payment later.

Use a reviewed mapping of provider app identifiers if you need a per-product total. A matching display name alone is not enough. For a company-wide review, make sure each selected app belongs in the intended portfolio and keep the provider subtotals available.

  • Record original currency and any conversion method.
  • Check both the start and end of each source's available history.
  • Use one advertising mode; do not add Network and Mediation together.
  • Keep missing reports visible rather than filling them with zero.

3. Build a total you can explain

A useful report lets a teammate trace the combined amount back to each component. Include the exact period, the last imported date and any incomplete source beside the total. When a newer report changes an estimate, replace the matching slice instead of adding it again.

Illustrative same-currency operating view

For the same completed period, €600 of App Store proceeds plus €400 of Google Play proceeds plus €150 of estimated Mediation earnings gives €1,150. Keep the €150 labelled Estimated. A separate €100 Network figure is diagnostic context, not another amount to add.

4. Review the total, then investigate each source

Connect the stores and AdMob under company Settings. Select your AdMob apps and wait for the initial import. Open Statistics → Overview for the revenue overview, Store analytics for store reports, and AdMob for advertising detail. Check the displayed currency and coverage before comparing totals.

Use the calculator to explore advertising assumptions separately from your imported results. Then choose a question for the next review: did impressions change, did yield change, or did store proceeds move? Avoid interpreting a revenue increase as improved retention without user or cohort evidence.

  • Review the contribution of each revenue stream.
  • Investigate one app or segment at a time.
  • Record a next action and a metric to check in the following completed period.
